That no good, very bad, going to be horrible day that I was predicting
for yesterday? Was actually worse than predicted :-(

Worked straight from 7.45am to 5.30pm, no breaks and barely allowed to
leave the desk for bathroom stops. My attempt to go for some lunch was
thwarted by a meeting with boss and director (after the same boss had
suggested that I take a break and eat something about thirty seconds
before...). Hence my attempt to call an agency about a job was also
thwarted. As was my attempt to intake food.

And the response to my report at the end of the day? "Here are all the
minor errors...". We'll just ignore the fact that I produced double
what I usually do in half the time I usually get...

I got home and started planning how to write my resignation. On a
brown paper back, in crayon, with lots of glitter was my eventual
letter of choice. Of course, I can't quit until I have another job
but...

I spent the evening watching Holby City with a large bowl of ice cream.

I was so stressed that I completely forgot that I had a bar of chocolate in the drawer, which might have sustained me in lieu of eating real food. That's how bad the day was and I'm still not sure how I was still going at 5.30pm.

Best not to speculate on how I drove the 40 miles home.

*g* So far, everyone seems to like this resignation letter concept. I'm thinking that I'll need big, chunky purple crayons for the full effect. And the glitter needs to be just the right consistency to stick to everyone involved :-)

The bad day must have showed yesterday because Mom was offering to help me write the letter.

Sticky glitter is a good idea, but you also need lots and lots of confetti folded up in the letter, so that when they open it, confetti goes everywhere.

I wish I could offer some consolation, but I can't. In my experience, IT jobs mean 50-hour weeks and as much shit as people can throw at you. If it helps at all, which it probably won't, my week hasn't been any better.

Right, well, here I go, off to complete the first draft of a 350 page manual (not bad going for three months, heh?), which I will stick on top of the 500 page one that I left with my boss in January. Which she hasn't touched yet, even though it's 'urgent'. Guess which one of us gets shafted in their review.

To be honest, the actual length of the day wasn't the real problem. It was a combination of all the crap on top of the day, the fact that Monday was almost as bad and the knowledge that it wasn't the first time and won't be the last. The worst bit is knowing that a lot of this could have been avoided if the company actually bothered to spend money on their IT infrastructure.

And none of the bosses seem to grasp any of these concepts.

Your job isn't any better than mine, from the sounds of things :-(

No, it's not. But, I have two days off looming. During which I shall have a TMA to write, a fence to make, and, er, possible tonsilitis. :-(

Plus, very annoyed with a mutual acquaintance right now, so not a happy camper. Sigh.

Sorry, hon :-( Sometimes work thoroughly sucks. Other times you get to enjoy it or find some fun thing to get you through the day, but sometimes it does suck mightily.

Of course, actually doing a job that you enjoy most of the time does take some of the pressure and stress away so I'm possibly not the best example at the moment :-)

One of these days, I'll get to write for a living. It's something I'm certain I'll be doing, but right now, I'm in the beginning stages, the ones where I'm learning the How To's, the patience and determination in sending in stories, and having to work at something else until I get myself established. Here's hoping the job(s) I find in the meantime don't suck too badly. And that goes double for you, sweetie. :)))
