Grouchiness and sleepiness

Things I have learned this morning:

1. A spoon works better than a knife when making coffee
2. Milk works better than OJ in that coffee
3. When I need a second cup of coffee in a morning and I muck it up totally, that might be a signal that I need another nap
4. 75% of Stargate fans are insane
5. Most of the insane ones are on the AG list, but a few of them have spread onto other lists
6. If I see one more Orrymain post...

Actually, 6 may not be a lesson - more of a threat. Now that voting in the Fanfic Awards is over I'm feeling a little less inclined to be nice about the beagle-writing idiot. Even her non-fic posts are like nails scraping on a blackboard. Argh! I feel sorry for the poor newbie she directed toward her fic at the weekend. Mind you, said poor newbie was looking for fics 'where Jack and Daniel are married and working on the Stargate'. Paraphrasing slightly, but not as much as you'd think. I have no problem with people liking a certain kind of fic (even if it is so far detached from reality that I want to spork my eyes out), but I wish they wouldn't deluge lists with their views on fluffy-wuffy Daniel and Jackikins.

Yeah, I may be grouchy this morning. Just a tiny bit. And I've had my coffee and everything.

Hey there. I saw your post on mntsshadowolf's site, and I thought I would say hi. You seem rather witty and insightful and I love your little bit about a particular author :)

Anyway, I haven't read any of your fics yet, but I may give them a try when I have a few more free moments :)

Um, wow, thank you :-) I still get rather shocked and flattered whenever someone recs my stuff. I hope you enjoy them if you do read them (and I'm trying to find a polite way of yelling "No! They're not that great! Go and read Joy's fic instead!").

I'm trying to work out whether that particular author actually has any fans. I certainly haven't met any. A lot of people seem to think that she may be someone playing a joke on the fandom, but I don't agree. Having watched the inception of Beaglefic (and her promise to only write one fic - argh!), I'd say she's real and honestly hasn't worked out that most slash readers can't stand her stuff. It will be interesting to see the winners of the fanfic awards...

It amazes me because I am a gen gal, but I will read slash. I only wrote one slash story, you know, as a challenge to myself. Maybe I will write more. But when I read slash, I always see hers. Everywhere. And the ideas are actually neat, it's just the delivery...

She posts everything she writes to every list and archive that might possibly accept it, in addition to her own site, and she's so prolific that every update on all those sites has a high proportion of fic by her. It's certainly a way to get noticed and I wouldn't mind if she were a good writer. I just find myself getting irritated every time I see even the summary for one of her fics. Possibly some of her ideas are neat, but the way she writes them (and particularly her characterisations) makes me shudder in a very bad way.

Slash isn't a bad thing. There is some very good writing in the slash world, just as there is good writing in all the other genres. But writers like her give slash writing a bad name :-(
