Geeky stuff
Jul. 15th, 2004 05:45 pmWhy did I decide to do a degree in computing? I could have done something much easier, like astrophysics or quantum mechanics. I could even have simply stayed in accounts for the rest of my life, following a long (er, two generation) family tradition of quitting uni at the end of the first year and becoming accountants.
Er, yes, I have been attempting to do some of my research project today. I'm still not sure why the hell I thought I could build any program more complicated than something that prints "Hello world" to the screen. I certainly shouldn't be attempting to build an FTP client and server in Java. I am such an idiot ::sigh::
Slightly more excitingly (although it really depends on your viewpoint), the Tour de France hit the mountains yesterday and I remembered again why I adore climbers. Mountains are much more exciting than flat stages, although I'm not sure that the guys riding up La Mongie tomorrow are going to agree with me there. Or the guy who fell off on a descent yesterday and fractured his ribs. I am such a cycling geek.
I still haven't finished Five Things, but I've only got another 800 words or so to go and I think my tutors might consider my research project to be more interesting. Hopefully I'll be able to spend Saturday morning on it and send it to beta - got a busy day tomorrow and more research project to work on. Guh.

Date: 2004-07-16 08:43 am (UTC)I'd be fine if there wasn't much maths. The chemistry I can do, but I need a good long run up at the maths and a genius to explain it all to me. But regurgitating data is a speciality of mine (and the reason why I'm not a good historian - I know the facts but I can't write a discursive essay on said facts to save my life), so maybe I need to look at that quantum mechanics idea more closely :-)
