Oscar noms

Rather a good crop of Oscar nominations this year.
I'm very pleased to see Brokeback Mountain nominated in so many categories and would have cried foul if it hadn't been nominated for cinematography - it was a beautifully filmed movie. I rather suspect that the penguin movie will walk away with the documentary statue, no matter how good the other movies were. A bit surprised to see King Kong not in any major categories - it wasn't the best film last year, but it was a beautiful film and the city-scapes alone were fab. I guess, though, that that's art direction rather than cinematography.
Over here, obviously, we're crowing about the Brit nominees. I would rather like to see Judi Dench picking up best actress because she's always good, even in completely crap films. I haven't seen Mrs Henderson Presents, but if she's up to her usual form then she'd deserve it. Not entirely convinced about Keira Knightly, though. She's a good actress, but I think that she still has better films ahead of her.
Rachel Weiss....um, my support for her may be completely superficial *snicker*
Oscar night should be interesting, at least.

Date: 2006-02-01 09:31 pm (UTC)Or should I saw, Sharon Osbourne interviews her best friends and occasionally mentions that film thing that's also happening. Not happy with that.
So I'll be trying to stay unaware of exactly what won all day on Monday unless I can contract a mystery case of flu that weekend and call in a sickie so that I can stay up for it.
