Busy, busy, busy
Sep. 18th, 2005 10:41 pmWell, the good news is that the new Haven Reviews now has a login/authorisation system that even has authorisation based on access level. I'm feeling very proud of it - I've basically taken all the good stuff from several different scripts, added a few modifications particular to the review site, and hopefully created a system that will work as intended. I've just got to add the scripts for registration, changing email and changing password and then I'm done.
And when I mean done, I mean "gotta to do final beta testing with some willingvictims vounteers before loading up all the reviews" kinda done. Hopefully the beta testing will be done in time for me to get the review loading done during my time off and then the thing will go live. Yay!
I'm very excited :-)
It's got a few new features that aren't available in the old site, which I hope people will find useful, and most importantly it's not going to be a pain to maintain and update anymore. All that should need doing regularly is validating new reviews - no more hours of coding, copying and pasting each time the archive needs updating. And whenever something needs changing, such as the URL of an archive or an author's name, it will only take five minutes rather than five hours of searching through static HTML pages for all the references.
I'm going to be throwing a party when this thing goes on line. Who knows? I might even find the time to read some new fanfic after it's live. Now wouldn't that be a departure for the fanfic reviewer :-) And now I am going to bed, where I will read one of my stack of booty from the second hand bookshop raid yesterday.
ETA: No contact yet from the old friend. It's only been two days, though, and I do know that I am being ridiculously impatient about it. It's not stopping me being impatient, but at least I know that I'm being irrational.
