So, another busy weekend over, although at least this time I don't think I'll be ending up in bed all day Tuesday with a scary headache.
Yesterday was a folk festival with
terrylbirch. Lots of good music, much fun, but an unfortunate amount of rain and cold. We discovered that more equipment is needed if the experience is to be repeated - highest on the list being some form of shelter and more layers. We arrived about noon, in time for the first set (Richard Digence) and stayed until around 11pm, missing the final hour of Fairport Convention's four hour set. We did at least leave when we were still having fun and capable of walking to the car, rather than when we were too frozen to move.
Stayed over at T's (very, very, comfortable bed in the guest room - definitely making sure that I get a proper sprung mattress when I one day have my own place), ate lots of pancakes for breakfast and then popped home for a not-barbeque followed by a walk around the gardens of a stately home with my family. T and I decided that we preferred today's weather, somehow.
Am now feeling very relaxed, happy, and pleasantly tired without being too exhausted to think.
astolat has been pointing people in the direction of good SGA fic -
basingstoke has written Neither an Ocelot Nor a Racoon Be, a very good John/Rodney fic that involves trees, and
sdraevn has written The Start Line, a Ronon fic. Except I haven't watched new SGA yet, so don't quite know who Ronon is. But the fic was good and I am now predisposed to like Ronon.
Reading SGA fic has inspired me to write the next Teyla/Elizabeth ficlet, except I need to rewatch "Hot Zone" before I do so. Hmm...
The learning PHP/MySQL project is proceeding apace. Have set up a mini review database to practise on - so far have searches sorted and am working out inserting new reviews with appropriate data validation techniques. Even designed my own little algorithm for validating dates. Still got a long way to go before I put together the real review database, but as you can see it's going faster and better than I thought it would. The cool thing is that I'm discovering all kinds of things that PHP can do and it's inspired me to think up extra new features that I can offer. There will probably be a poll at some stage to discover whether users have any features that they'd really like me to add in - particular searches, or maybe extra facilities that would make them more likely to return to the review site regularly. Damn, I'm thinking too much like a software designer :-)
