Date: 2016-09-14 11:04 pm (UTC)20. I love most of the tropes, particularly when authors play with them and do new or interesting things to subvert them, so it's hard to name tropes I really dislike. The omegaverse thing really isn't my bag and I'll only read it if it's by authors I reallly love. And mpreg is a guaranteed backspace for me.
23. Hah! I used to think I didn't want specific prompts, but then I got a couple of good ones and I realised that it's all about what the prompt is and how it's worded. If someone gives me a paragraph-long description of the fic...nope. But something with just enough to inspire without going into detail? It's great! I got such a fantastic prompt for last year's femslashex--the writer pointed to a gifset they'd found on Tumblr and asked for something based around it. The gifset was of an X-Files AU of Harry Potter, with Luna as Mulder, Hermione as Scully (it was a Luna/Hermione fic), McGonnagall as Skinner and Bellatrix as the Cigarette Smoking Man, with an image of Luna surrounded by twinkling little lights. It was a gorgeous gifset and I was immediately inspried by it. The author could probably have just given me a couple of sentences and I would have been equally inspired, although honestly, I adored getting a gifset prompt :-)
So I guess I come down on the side of specific prompts if they're the right kind of prompt. Something fun and inspiring, but without so much detail it feels like the fic is being dictated to me. That femslashex one was the easiest, most enjoyable prompt I've ever had--I had a fic outlining itself in my head as soon as I saw it. And as long as the author doesn't say that's the only possible fic they'll accept! If they give a more general prompt, too, in case their specific idea doesn't grab me, that makes it feel less dicatorial and I'm more likely to try to make their specific prompt work for me.
Did that word vomit help at all?

Date: 2016-09-15 05:55 pm (UTC)Fic is where I tend to go for more of my favourite secondary characters, so this is a hard one to answer because I usually find what I'm looking for.
The only one I can think of is...I may be looking in the wrong places, but I don't see a much good Kate Lethbridge-Stewart fic. This may be a symptom of my Jemma Redgrave crush, but I adore her and there can never be enough Kate in fics.
