Snowpocalypse 2015

Honestly, I had no idea this much snow could exist. We had 30cm on Sunday--which translated into chest deep drifts covering most of my driveway--and now we've got another 50cm+ today. I'm not going to try to estimate how deep the drifts on my driveway are right now. Very deep is all I can say.

And drifts against both of my doors, which is going to make trying to get out to deal with this when it finally stops snowing...interesting.

Honestly tempted to say "Fuck it" and give up on even starting to shovel today. I might have to see if a cousin can get to me tomorrow and give me a hand with this. Something tells me I won't be seeing my plough guy any time soon...

There are rumours of another storm on Saturday. Starting to suspect spring is mythical.

I told my parents at the weekend that I'm moving out of the house into an apartment in three years. I figured that was enough time for them to get their shit together and either move over here or sell the house. Kind of wish I'd told them I'm moving next week...

Wow, that's so much snow! I have to admit that until the Polar Vortex winter, I hadn't really considered snow as a factor limiting people's ability to live in standalone homes.

I know, it's a long way away. But at least they've now got a deadline, rather than the nebulous "within the next four years" they've been giving me for the last six years!

That puts it at Dad's retirement year, so it seems reasonable to ask them to make some kind of decision about the house's fate by then.

It was an incredible amount of snow. In the end, it was close to 70cm. Between the two storms (Sunday and Wednesday) we had over a meter of snow. Thankfully the mess on Saturday/Sunday was a bit of rain and a couple of cm of snow, so it didn't make things that much worse in the city, anyway.

It is amazing how much difference snow makes to living in standalone homes. If you've got a healthy adult or two in a household, then living in a house isn't bad. If you don't...then living in a standalone house becomes very difficult in winter.

Gah, you remind me -- my grandmother wound up in the hospital in November and was transferred from there to a nursing home. My mother informed me a few days ago that my cousin and his wife are having a new house built -- but have to be out of their current house within a month or so -- and they're moving into Grandma's currently-empty house until their own is reaady. Which means I have to finally get around to going over to Grandma's house and clearing out the stuff I left stored over there when I lived with Grandma in 1999...
