After a lot of discussions on Twitter lately, mourning the loss of the comment and fandom culture when LJ fragmented, I'm going to try to resurrect this old thing and actually make regular posts.

Yeah, I know, I've said this before. But this time I have my determined face on. See the determined face?

I'm not going to get overly ambitious about this. No commitment to daily posting. Weekly posting, that's what I'm aiming for as a minimum. Even if it's just something short and silly, like "OMG DOCTOR WHO SQUEE".

(That might get tired after a while for you guys if that's all I do, but I'm going to try.)

If anyone wants to send me prompts to help me stick to this (oh, please, send me prompts), leave a comment here with questions I can answer or meta stuff I can talk about. Because it might take some prodding to get my thinky brain working again :-)

I'm going to try, anyway :-) I've celebrated by putting on a pretty new layout dress and making a list of prompts and ideas to work on.

It's a short list.

I've actually got a few good prompts already, which is going to help with the posting regularly thing :-)

My own LJ has turned into a sort of biweekly post (and if I miss the Friday-or-Saturday post I'm not overly bummed about it) that gives a recap of my week and then photos of my knitting and my manicure. If nothing else, it's keeping a record for myself of what's going on with my life -- and I also find that tracking my weekly knitting progress keeps me motivated on my various projects.

Losing my personal record is part of what I realised I've been losing. I looked back at my Twitter account during Worldcon and it was lovely to see all those memories again, but in a few months, those tweets will be so hard to find. I used to read back through LJ/DW to find that stuff. I can't guarantee there will be a huge volume of personal stuff here, but I'd like some of it to get recorded, you know?

Every now and then I get a comment, but LJ and its clones have become kind of dead space and I figure most of what I'm posting is just to have a record for myself. (Copied from DW to LJ, and from there by way of the LJ Archive program, so I've got a file on my own computer even if the websites both vanish or one or both of my own journals get hacked.)

I've seen a lot of the same discussion too - I just put something on my tumblr about it. I'm also going to make an effort to start posting here as well and try to find some people/blogs to follow.

Maybe if people talk about it enough, they'll make their way back to DW and we'll have a journalling fandom again :-D I've been poking around and feeling surprised by how many people are over here - including a lot of people who were LJ holdouts a couple of years ago.
