Ganked from [personal profile] sineala because I haven't done one of these in years, mostly because it's been a long time since I wrote more than one or two things in a year.

This year I wrote and posted:

154,589 words in two fandoms. Which is stunning compared to the less than 10k in the previous couple of years..

Overall Thoughts:

OMG, what the hell happened? Actually, I know what happened. I stumbled into a fandom and a pairing that I can't stop writing and it's been literally years since this happened.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

Ha ha ha! Er, yes :-D

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?

I had no idea that the Marvel, specifically Avengers, would steal my heart. No idea that Clint or Coulson even existed at that point. Or Darcy and Natasha, for that matter.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?

The one that I can actually re-read without wanting to wince, that makes me happy because I felt like I got it right, was "Five Times Clint Had To Explain (And One Time He Didn't). I haven't written anything I'm not happy with this year, but that remains my favourite.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

The entire year has been filled with risks. I actually attempted humour and I've had a lot of fun being funny. And apparently other people think I'm funny. I also write a Dirty Dancing fusion AU that I was sure would be the thing that got me killed because, seriously, Dirty Dancing fusion AU? The thing I learned is that if try to do my best with everything I try, even the weirder stuff, someone out there will also like it.

From my past year of writing, what was....

My best story of this year:

Oh god, horrible question. I can't pick just one. "In the still of the night" (that Dirty Dancing fusion AU) has, I think, some of my best writing. "Vampires in Manhattan" is also something where I think my writing is good and I'm proud of the fact that I handled multiple plot threads without dropping them. The Courting for Dummies series is something I'm proud of because I feel like I'm getting the pacing, tone and feel right.

My most popular story of this year:

"No PR Manager Deserves the Avengers". Yikes. Closely followed by Five Explanations :-D

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

"Vampires in Manhattan" didn't get the love it deserves, but it's a niche story so I'm not completely surprised.

Most fun story to write:

The "Courting for Dummies" series. I have a lot of fun writing "Damage Limitation" stories, but CFD is the one I actively looking forward to writing. I've been known to use it as a reward for writing more difficult things.

Story with the single sexiest moment:

I'm a terrible judge. I don't write porn. Fahre insists that I do, but I don't. Probably people reading my fic could tell me far better than I could because I really can't judge this.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:

I have no shame, there weren't any. OK, maybe the Dirty Dancing fusion AU.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:

I'm going with Vampires in Manhattan. I wrote two versions of Clint, Coulson and Natasha for that story and it forced me to think about those characters in order to get the changes to the AU versions right. There's nothing like writing a mirror-universe(ish) story for learning about the characters you're writing.

Hardest story to write:

"In the still of the night", because it was the Dirty Dancing fusion AU and that was hard. For a start, I had to work out which bits of the Dirty Dancing story to keep and what to throw out and how to adjust it all to fit the fact that I was changing the gender of one character, reversing their relative ages and telling a story about people much older than the Johnny, Baby and Penny. I also had a scene where Clint confesses he'd taken money for sex (sort of) because it's strongly implied in the film that Johnny did that. I had to get that balance right, get Phil's reaction right and it felt like the single most difficult scene I've written all year. It's also, in some ways, one of the bits of writing I'm most proud of.

Biggest Disappointment:

I can honestly say that I had no disappointments this year. Weird.

Biggest Surprise:

The whole year. Seriously. My word count was insane.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:

ALL OF THEM *headdesk* Or maybe just anything where I covered Clint in glitter and put eyeliner in him because apparently that's a kink I didn't know I had.

Fic-writing goals for 2013:

1. Finish Courting for Dummies and keep to the vague schedule I set myself for it.
2. Write and finish the massive space pirate AU I`ve been plotting and just started.
3. Write and finish the Edwardian crime fighting vigilantes AU.
4. Take part in one of the Big Bangs again.
5. Have fun with whatever I write. That`s the biggest goal
