Yet another quiz, can't remember where I found it:

Plot
You're a Plot writer!

What kind of writer are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Hmm. I guess this is fairly accurate. I definitely have trouble writing stories that don't have some kind of plot to them and I admire the people who can write good stories that basically have the guys hanging around the house and doing quiet domestic stuff because I just can't write that. It's probably the reason why anything I write with more than 2000 words ends up being an action/adventure, big driving plot thing.

On the other hand, I also like dialogue and description. A story just doesn't work for me if they aren't done well. And good characterization. But if I don't have a plot to hang it all from, I just can't seem to write it. Hmm.

Inner Voices 4 is definitely going better. Heh, it was a plot thing that got me stalled *g* I like writing. I know that I've heard some authors say they don't actually like the process of writing, of getting words down on paper, but I do. There are times when it's hard and I have to force out each sentence. That's usually when I'm writing the sections that I find difficult - big talking sections with several characters speaking so that I have to parcel out lines properly and make sure the dialog works. Or places where I need exposition and have to work out how to do it without just dumping an enormous chunk of boring information in the middle of a scene. And the bits that link together all the sections that have flowed really well. They're all hard work, but I don't dislike them and when I write a section that's been playing in my mind and flows really well, it's actually a lot of fun.

I can't believe that I've been writing fanfic for nearly five years. I'm stunned to work it out. My first (very bad) Buffy/Giles fic came out in July 1999. Eek. The crazy thing is that I'm having even more fun with it now than ever before. Writing fanfic has taught me a lot about writing in general and I know that I write much better than I did before I started. It's paying off in my original work as well and I think that I might actually be capable of writing something that might get published. I've just got to get off my butt and write it *g* I have ideas overflowing, both for fanfic and original work, and the only thing that's preventing me from writing more is a lack of time. I sometimes wish that I could just write full-time without having to do this college/work malarky. One day, maybe....
