Rain, rain, go away
Sep. 10th, 2012 01:47 pmWell, this weather sucks piggy wonks. It's dark, tipping down rain and thoroughly horrible. What a great way to start a Monday!
The weekend was fairly uneventful. I spent more hours than I want to think about doing a complete edit on That AU. It's now sitting for a few days so that I can re-read and check that my edits make sense. Just giving something a week between editing passes allows me to see it afresh and spot issues that I missed during pass one.
It's now near 19k words because the edits (mostly adding sentences or short paragraphs to smooth out transitions, finish thoughts etc. as well as rewording awkward stuff) added 2k. Yikes.
I also spent a fair bit of time on Saturday morning going through the first half of my Marvel Big Bang with Fahre's beta notes, writing notes on what needs fixing and how etc. I'll be doing the same for the second half of MBB this week so hopefully I'll be starting the actual edits at the weekend.
I'm currently figuring that I'll be averaging two or three hours per chapter and two of the chapters will definitely need more work than that. So it's going to take me at least a couple of weeks. Thankfully final submission isn't until mid-October so I've got plenty of time.
She says. Trying not to hear "famous last words" echoing around her brain.
My next few fics will definitely be plot-light crack. That's two very long, very plotty fics in six weeks and MBB is incredibly complicated to work with. I need a break from thoughtful and plotty fics.
I've got one short ridiculous piece of fluff that I'll probably be posting this week. Then I have two more WIPs that are equally fluffy and potentially crackful.
And there are Damage Limitation fics to play with when those are done. My timeline has at least five semi-plotted out. Damn you, fic that was supposed to be a one-off and is now a series with at least ten parts and a sort-of arc. Argh.
In other words, o chance of sensible, complicated fics appearing on my radar again for a looooong time.
Speaking of Marvel Big Bang...looks like there are going to be some amazing fics from reading the artist claims post(s). Over 70 fics are on the list, more than 60 of them Avengers, and I'm really impressed by the variety of what is being written. I feel vaguely guilty for being ridiculously excited by the prospect of a Clint/Coulson wingfic and a 10k+ C/C sex pollen fic (OMG, I love the cliches and tropes FAR TOO MUCH) but there are also a ton fics that look like they'll be thoughtful and wonderful.
Thankfully with the wingfic and the sex pollen and the fluffy domesticity that I've spotted, my fic doesn't look out of place :-D I was mildly concerned (Fahre, don't say a word, it was *mild* concern). Now I'm just biting my nails over whether anyone will want to pick my fic. And whether someone will be put off by the un-beta'd, really rough first draft that I had to submit. Argh!
Speaking of love for tropes...over the weekend a pirate AU and a wingfic got posted to the Avengers Reverse Big Bang. They both have Clint/Coulson as either the main or secondary pairing. The wingfic is by foxxcub, who writes some of my favourite AUs. I am so very excited to see what she does with it. I mean, wingfic. With that pairing. Heh. I think that I know what I'll be curling up with after my injection tomorrow evening :-D
This week looks busy. Got my dad arriving for his visit on Wednesday and then that evening my little Annie-cat is having her first visit with a groomer. My little girl is getting mats in areas where she won't let me groom her properly and she needs that fur clipping short. Usually I go at the fur with scissors but she hates it and because she struggles so much, she ends up looking funny and uneven.
On Thursday evening Kate goes back to the vet for a check-up to see how her IBD is. If the vet is happy with her then we'll be getting the extraction scheduled in.
Friday is my day off so I'm probably going over to the city for the day with my parents. There may be a comic shop, a nice meal and a French patisserie. That should cheer me up after having to traumatise my cats so much this week!

I know, it will be fine. In the actual meaning of fine not my usual meaning of fine which means anything from "I've got a hangnail but I'm fine" all the way to "I'm dying from bloody loss but I'm fine".
No, really, when I was being set up with IVs I was insisting that I was fine :-D
But I do know that everything will be fine and claims don't close for a week and people have already picked the ones that sounded shiniest and they don't know how amazing vamp!Barton would be.
Yet.

There's probably an amazing artist who's looking at your description and thinking 'Vamp!Clint?? CAN I DO JUSTICE TO SUCH AN IMAGE OF PERFECTION?? LEONARDO DAVINCI I AM NOT! *sobsobweepsobsob*' 'Cause, let's face it, you've set the bar pretty fucking high this time. *patpatpat*
... I'll go get the Emergency Tea. *exit: stage left*
