Bad Day, Ugh
May. 1st, 2012 06:17 pmToday is a Bad Day.
I have some special equipment at work to help me not over-strain or over=twist my rather bendy joints. Lovely occupational therapists periodically assess me and prescribe this stuff because my boss is lovely. One of the most useful things is a special contraption that replaces my mouse. It's lovely because I'm able to keep my hands on/near the keyboard and operate the mouse with my thumbs. That reduces the strain on my shoulders, back and wrists which is important for me.
Unfortunately the new computers we have periodically don't recognise my lovely contraption. Today is one of those days. So I'm using the regular mouse that is kept hooked up to my machine (for the non-bendy-people who can't figure out my regular mouse) and the only place that it can be located (due to the special desk set-up that I have) requires some twisting and straining on my right shoulder which I know is going to be pretty darned painful by the end of the day. I hate the lopsided feeling that I get when this happens. Ugh.
On top of this, I've got a sick headache (yeah, probably another migraine) lurking around. And my tummy is cramping nicely.
Plus tonight I get to stab myself with the Humira pen, which will either be fine or leave me feeling like I've got the flu and a truck ran over me for two days.
So, yeah, today is not one of my better days. It's also Blogging Against Disabilism Day (links to many articles). I don't consider myself disabled. It's a label that I fight because, 90% of the time, my illnesses don't make a massive difference to me. Today, though, when my oddments of special equipment are malfunctioning and I feel like something you scrape off your shoe, I know that I'm not exactly able-bodied either.
In other news, having homemade cookie dough balls in the freezer is awesome because last night I was craving really chocolatey cookies and I got to eat some fresh out of the oven with no effort at all. Om nom nom. Must replenish my supply when I get back from England :-)
