Baking is always the answer

OMG, everyone, Hurricane Irene is going to destroy us all! Panic eleventyone!!!1!1!!

Er, actually, it should only graze my area so we're expecting high winds and probably a lot of wind Sunday night through to Monday. I'm hoping this is true and doesn't turn about to be another Earl.

Mostly because I don't want to lose my power. I have Humira in my fridge. I cannot afford to lose $800 of meds to a power cut. Although a day off work wouldn't be unwelcome...

Good thing it's not coming tomorrow. It's Doctor Who tomorrow!

I'm thinking that the best response to all this is a bit of baking tomorrow morning before the day gets too hot. I have all the ingredients for Chocolate Cookies with Cocoa Nibs and Lime and they sound like perfect DW watching/hurricane survival food. Am I right or am I right?

And now I am off to the local place of awesome food for my supper. I'm sort of thinking of trying their burger, but may get swayed by the specials board. Or the chowder. Or the fish cakes. Hmm.

I have a cooler and lots of ice packs, plus a tiny travel pack with a tiny ice pack that's supposed to be a travel kit for the Humira. Hopefully that would give me a fighting chance if the power cut doesn't last more than a day.

Nope. I can understand why people worry, though, because my aunt was power-less for several days. I hate being without power :-( It's illogical, but it makes me incredibly anxious.

Solving the Humira power-out problem get 2 plastic food boxes (1 the size of your med box and the other about 4x bigger) and make up some ice cube bags tonight.

If you had a 12V coolbox you could stick it in the car and take it for a drive occasionally.

Thankfully I've largely got the cooler/ice-block/medical ice-pack thing sorted now, although that only keeps things chilled for 24-48 hours. It should be good enough for the kind of power cut I had post-Earl last year, which is hopefully the worst I'll see.

A hurricane ten years ago left my aunt without power for six days. Let's plan on never doing that, OK?
