Of weekends and baking and stuff
Aug. 22nd, 2011 06:26 pmI am so proud of myself. I was a grown-up all day on Saturday, got all my stuff done (so happy the car passed inspection) and didn't fall asleep on anyone even though I was so tired I wanted to cry. My being a grown-up even extended to cooking a healthy supper when I really wanted to order in pizza. After all, I'd been out for a meal on Friday so I really couldn't justify the pizza.
OK, yesterday I totally blew off church in favour of sleep but I was still terribly responsible and grown up. I made applesauce and a rice salad thing for my work lunches! I did exercise! I didn't turn on the TV until the evening! I ate a healthy salad-y supper!
I finished The Castle of Otranto even though there were other books that I wanted to ready way more!
This is a week filled with being an adult. Somehow I suspect that I'm going to goof off and be silly all next weekend. I may not even eat that healthily. Heh.
On another subject, is it too early to start a "going to Worldcon in 2014" savings account?
Mum made some baked stuff before she left for her holiday in Manitoba. I'm not going to comment on the Manitoba thing. No, I don't understand why she wanted a break there.
Anyway, she baked. And she told me that she wasn't happy with the results (it's a new recipe) so she needs to tweak things.
Not sure how she can tweak that one. All I can taste in it is sugar. Seriously, there are other things in these things (marble squares, for the curious) including chocolate and all I can taste is the sugar. Ugh. Pretty sure that recipe cannot be rescued. Part of me really wants to chuck them, but another part of me hates throwing food away. Except I'm not sure that I can make myself eat the rest.
Did I mention that all I can taste is the sugar?
Oh, and Mum froze half the batch so I have more to eat when she gets back. Ugh! Ugh! Mum, that is a seriously not good recipe.
The worst part? I was eating one while watching The Great British Bakeoff and drooling over seriously awesome cakes. It just made me more aware that these things have zero taste to them apart from the OMG!sugar thing.

Date: 2011-08-22 11:54 pm (UTC)Or, frankly, lots of people will eat ANYTHING described as cake, so you can make people very happy by giving them away. And it is certainly not too early to start the savings account, because if there's some awful financial emergency between now and then you can always spend the money on the AFE, but if not, you'll have lots of money in the account to hvae an extra-pleasant trip.

Date: 2011-08-23 08:23 pm (UTC)Thanks :-) The savings is more for the airfare and hotels that will be necessary. August air fares, ick.
