The Great Upgrade continues apace. I'm coding up the Legacy stories and then all of the fiction is finished. Woo! I'll have the art/photos pages to sort out and the reviews section, but it's encouraging to finally see the finish-line.

I'm ignoring the proposed database for the review archive. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

I also have a book rec: Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce. I've been a fan of TP since I read 'Alanna: The First Adventure' at the age of twelve and I'm totally enjoying this new one. I must get hold of the next book in this series soon :-) TP vaires a bit - I love her YA novels ('Song of the Lioness' series and 'The Immortals' series) because she creates strong, likable female characters without leaving the male characters emasculated or dull. That's not something I often see in fantasy - you either get strong female characters and weak or dull male characters, or you get good male characters with boring or daft, fluttery females who constantly need their men to protect them. I like an author who can do both equally while having a female as the central protagonis.

TP has written a couple of series for the slightly younger (i.e. pre-teen) market and, although I like the characters and stories, they don't pull me in and absorb me in the same way as the YA novels. Maybe it's because she's writing those for a younger market or maybe it's just a personal preference in terms of characters, but reading Trickster's Choice is reminding me why some YA authors are so darned good.

Yeah, I'm still the book geek :-) And I'm working my way through my Christmas booty haul - yay for finally having the time! One of the many reasons why the last temp contract was the contract from hell - I never had time to read anything. I started going through withdrawal :-)

This ramble comes curtesy of three cups of super-strong coffee from a colleague. Must be stronger and refuse all but the first tomorrow.
