It has been at least a week since anyone stuck me with a needle so today was blood work day. Given the choice between waiting for two and a half hours and getting it done for free (resulting in more time off work) or paying $13 and getting it done in 5 minutes before work, I opted for the one that is compatible with continued employment. Trying not to feel guilty about encouraging the privatisation of critical services like this.

On Friday, I cast on for a new knitting project. It's a vintage waistcoat pattern, in sports weight, and I bought some beautiful Blue Moon Fibre Arts Woobu (merino and bamboo) yarn for it. The required gauge has resulted in me knitting it on 2.25mm and 2.5mm needles (i.e. very tiny needles) but I'm about four inches into the back and I love it. The stich pattern is 1x1 rib all over, with a knit row on each 10th row, and the resulting texture combined with the yarn is gorgeous and just right for the vintage-ness of this pattern.
It could take a while, but I'm really excited about it :-)
I am learning that even the simplest thing can sometimes turn into a massive Thing. We're trying to organise a pizza party at work using the money that we 'won' for participating in the St. Patrick's Day cubicle decorating contest. You wouldn't think this would be hard, right? Well, we've got small one group who wants us to use the money to go to the movies seeing as there's a deal on for a movie that they want to see on a Tuesday afternoon. Problem with that is that it's not a move everyone wants to see and in the past this kind of plan has Not Gone Well. There is massive butt-hurt for all the people who don't want to see the movie and resentment towards those who go anyway and use all the money on treats and get time off and...
Yeah, let's not do that.
Then there's the question of where we get the pizza from. Everyone wants it from somewhere different and the amount we can buy with what we've got is a big factor in that. The local pizza place is good but expensive and the last time we did this, there wasn't enough to go around. There are other places that are cheaper and therefore can get us more for our budget, but several people (including the organizer) don't want stuff from there and would prefer the local place. Then there is the debate over what to get. Two people don't like pizza and want wings. I like wings, but acknowledge that the quantity of wings you can get is much less than the quantity of pizza, so the wings people will consume a larger portion of the budget and result in even less pizza. So even less food to go around overall, which last time resulted in several people getting no food.
Finally, there is the pizza choice. We have a Muslim on-staff and most pizzas tend to include toppings that he can't eat. Plus there is at least one vegetarian. Thus, we usually try to make sure there is a veggie pizza around so that nobody is left out due to the topping choice. Several members of staff are objecting to this because why should there be an entire pizza with no meat just so that it's suitable for two members of staff? They want as much meaty pizza as possible!
If it were up to me, we'd get lots of pizza from the cheaper-but-good place, including a veggie one, and the wings people would throw in some money to get their wings. That's unlikely to happen because the organizer is in the wings-and-local-place group. I wonder how many people are going to get offended while we sort this out?
Of course, it may all be moot for me, as it's happening next Thursday and so far I'm getting to Thursday and hitting a wall of exhaustion and nausea so I may not actually want to be in the same room as pizza. Ah, well, more pizza for everyone else...
Tonight is yoga night. Tomorrow is knit night. Kate really resents me being out so often even though she doesn't cuddle much in the evening :-) She's a demanding little kitty. Annie misses the snuggles and makes up for it by demanding Even Moar Snuggles!OMG when I'm around. When I got home from work yesterday, Annie acted like she hadn't been cuddled since forever (despite cuddling for quite a while in the morning) and put on quite the "need snuggles now!" display. My cats, they are crazy.
