So, there's this hurricane...
Sep. 3rd, 2010 08:50 pmAs some people may know, Hurricane Earl has been tracking its way up the eastern coast of North America this week. My little area of Canada has been keeping an eye on it and making preparations, despite nobody outside the Maritimes noticing that there's anything north of Maine, and it's now definitely got its sights set on us.
Thankfully the government has been fairly insistent on getting the word out, so I'm all stocked up with clean water, food, tanks for the BBQ and Coleman stove and other essentials in case I'm without power for a while. We've brought everything in from the yard and secured the house as well as we can. We've got cash in case the power is out for a while and stores can't process card transactions. We're ready.
Hopefully it's all going to be unnecessary. The eye of Earl is going to make landfall around 150km away at the latest estimates, but its diameter has been growing as it weakened and we're on the windier side of the storm. As of noon today, my county is officially in hurricane watch and at some stage tomorrow morning it will start. I'm still really hoping that any power loss is temporary and that I'm back on line tomorrow night, but wanted to give everyone a heads up just in case. I'll be posting a message here when the storm's over and I've got power back.
If anyone wants to see what's happening, check http://www.cbc.ca/ns/ for updates. It's going to be a little bumpy!
