Doctor Who meme
Jan. 8th, 2009 12:34 pmBecause I am figuring out PL/SQL packages and functions (and feeling bored doing it), I have turned into a lemming and done a meme.
1. When did you start watching?
I remember Peter Davidson clearly so it was probably some time after 1981 and before 1983, because I remember getting my grandmother to record The Five Doctors for me. The problem with sharing a birthday with my favourite show is that sometimes birthday parties overlap with special anniversary episodes.
1a. Why?
I always loved spending time with my father and he was a devoted DW watcher. It was a time during the week when I could guarantee that he'd be around and not working. Then I gradually became as much of a fan as he was - witness me getting The Five Doctors recorded when I was five.
2. What was your first episode?
No idea at all. Something that aired between 1981 and November 23 1983, unless I watched Tom Baker at the age of 2 and don't remember.
3. Which episodes have you seen?
All of New Who, all of Peter Davidson, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy during their initial runs plus a number of those repeated on DVD and VHS. The Movie. A scattering of episodes from all the other Doctors.
3a. Favourite?
Castrovalva (please do not ask me to rationalise that), Battlefield, The Empty Child/Doctor Dances, Turn Left - no, I can't choose just one.
4. Are your friends/family interested in the show?
My Da got me into it, my mother and sister love the new show.
5. Which Doctor is your favourite?
Five is my Doctor, but Seven is my favourite. Quite fond of Nine and Ten though.
6. Which Doctor is your least favourite?
Um...One? Bad DW fan, no biscuit.
7. Which TV companion is your favourite?
Ace :-) Donna comes a very, very close second.
8. Which TV companion is your least favourite?
Mel.
9. Do you listen to the Big Finish audios?
When I get a good supply (or break down and buy the particularly intriguing ones).
9a. If so, which is your favourite?
I think it's called Radio 34 or Freedom 34? It's a Seven, Ace, Hex one.
9b. Also: which Big Finish companion is your favourite?
Hex.
10. Have you listened to any non-Big Finish audios?
I've heard a couple of the David Tennant ones and I love the way he reads them. His voices are great.
11. Have you read any of the novels or short stories?
A few, yes.
11a. Have you written any of the novels or short stories?
No.
11b. Which is your favourite?
Not sure, none have really stuck in my mind.
12. Have you read any of the comics?
No.
13. Do you watch any of the spinoffs (e.g. Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures)?
Both.
13a. Which is your favourite?
Tough one because I adore both for different reasons.
14. Is there any particular episode/book/audio/comic you desperately want to watch/listen to/read?
All the lost episodes!
Fandom
1. Do you write fanfic for Doctor Who?
Yes.
1a. If so, post a snippet of a work-in-progress (or several)!
The Doctor had not changed at all. He stood at the door with a somber expression, as though this were the last place in the universe that he wanted to be, yet he almost vibrated with energy.
"You came," Wilf said. "I wasn't sure you would."
"Your message sounded urgent," the Doctor said. "I couldn't ignore it." (Donna Fix-it Fic)
Over the months, Donna had learned that nothing was ever as simple as “press some buttons and we’ll get there without a problem”. The TARDIS sometimes seemed to have a mind of her own. So it came as no surprise to Donna that the Doctor looked slightly abashed when he checked the co-ordinates after they landed. (Donna the Time Lord)
2. Do you create Doctor Who icons?
Not often.
2a. Let's see a sample!
It's been at least two years so I'd really have to hunt for them.
3. Recommend a fanfic/icon/fanvid/fancomic/fancreation!
All my favourites are recced on my site :-)
4. Have you been to any Doctor Who conventions?
Not to a DW con specifically, but there have been DW tracks or panels at a few of the cons I've been to.
5. Have you ever dressed up as a Doctor Who character?
No.
6. Do you own any Doctor Who merchandise?
The Desk Diaries for 2008 and 2009. And the TARDIS tin box that came with the VHS box-set of Trial of a Time Lord. I really want a sonic screwdriver, though.
7. Are you a fan of Russell T Davies?
Yes :-)
7a. Steven Moffat?
Huge fan - adored him from Press Gang time.
7b. Paul Cornell?
Totally :-)
8. What say you to Season 6b?
Um, maybe?
9. The UNIT dating controversy?
DW isn't exactly known for it's internal consistency.
10. The Blinovitch Limitation effect?
Got a problem with it?
11. Multi-Doctor episodes?
Love 'em :-)
12. What's your favourite Doctor Who technobabble?
Probably the timey-wimey speech. Or anything from Jon Perwee's era :-)
13. Have you watched other TV shows exclusively because of the presence of Doctor Who actors?
No.
14. Have you met any of the actors?
Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker and Nicholas Courtney. Sadly, I never quite co-ordinated me being in the DW area of that con with Sophe Aldred being the DW area as well :-(
14a. Travelled to any filming locations?
No.
15. What do you think of The Curse of Fatal Death?
Not canon, but very funny.
16. Do you have any fannish opinions that you think are fairly unpopular?
I have no idea. I have opinions, whether they're popular or not doesn't worry me much.
17. What's your favourite pairing?
I'm more of a gen person with DW (except, obviously, for Torchwood where Jack and Ianto need to continue having as much sex as possible and dropping intriguing hints that make fan girls scream so I can watch the hysteria).
18. What pairing(s) won't you touch with a really long pole?
Anything under-age. I say that I'm a gen girl for DW, but last year I ended up writing two DW pairings for different femslash challenges and neither of them were ones that I could imagine writing before I started them.
