So tomorrow, then...

Apparently, we finally find out the answer to the biggest question of the last three months - who is the real next Doctor?
My money is still firmly on Patterson Joseph. I will be un-impressed if it's James Nesbitt, David Morissey and John Simm have both had big roles previously and DW doesn't like to recycle their actors and Robert Carlyle has signed up for the next Stargate spin-off. So if it's not PJ, they'll have thrown us one from way out of left field.
Anyone else got names to add before we get the confirmation?

Date: 2009-01-02 06:39 pm (UTC)We could do with an older doctor again, and he is so, so amazingly good!
And sure, he's been in it briefly as the forgetting Master, but Colin Baker (may we forget he ever existed!) was in it before he was the doctor - he was a guard in one of the Gallifrey ones.

Date: 2009-01-02 06:48 pm (UTC)Colin Baker is my argument for why they can use Paterson Joseph - his was a tiny role that nobody would remember if he hadn't become the Doctor a year later. I only remember Roderick because I adore Paterson Joseph. It's why I think Simm and Morrisey are totally out of the running, even though I think either of them could do something good as well.
Is it tomorrow yet?

Date: 2009-01-02 07:24 pm (UTC)I hope it's either David Threlfall or Jack Davenport. Both are nowhere near the tipsters' lists, but when I look at said tipsters' lists it's just a who's who of everyone who's had more than 2 'hit' series on the BBC in the last 18 months.
By the same token, if it's Nesbitt I will hurl the SOFA at the TV and not just the cushions.

Date: 2009-01-02 07:40 pm (UTC)Jack Davenport could be excellent. Hmm *adds to mental list of wants*
Hadn't even considered him. I'm not sure about David Thellfall, but then I've only seen him in brief clips of Shameless and in Master and Commander. Of course, he does seem to be a rather excellent actor so there's no reason that he couldn't do a good thing as the Doctor.
If it's Nesbitt, I may struggled to watch DW until he goes and this was my first thing that I was ever fannish about so I don't want my fannish childhood destroyed in that manner.
Not that I'm a drama queen or anything...

Date: 2009-01-02 09:15 pm (UTC)As long as he plays it laid back and more 'Daleks? Oh please... *nukes the lot*' than Tennant's 'Daleks? O_O All weeeeeeeeeeeee are saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaying is giiiiiiiiiive huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumanity a chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaance! ^.^' I think Dav's on ftw.
My OMG!Threlfall's!Brilliant thing goes back to Men of the World (with John Simm!) and Nightingales. I also caught a bit of him in Phantom of the Opera at about the same time (early/mid-90s) - not kidding the man's a chameleon. I seriously believe if anyone wrote a DW story that required all regenerations fed through one - only Threlfall could make it work.
Nesbitt gives me nightmares. I used to watch this daft, brilliant, funny and WONDERFUL programme called 'Murphy's Law'... Then it went the hell in a badfic basket by the third season. I genuinely believe if Nesbitt's appointed Time Lord, halfway through the second season there'll be raped Cybermen, close-ups on Dalek extermiplungers being broken during interrogation and he'll spend most of his time with the TARDIS lighting set to 'moody' and doing shotglasses of Typhoo between smoking crack with his sonic screwdriver.
Oh I AM a drama queen - Nesbitt? Count me out.
