It's not all bad here
Mar. 4th, 2008 01:38 pmEvery now and again, something good happens at work. Not often, I'll grant,
but every now and again. Oddly, it usually involves colleagues and not
working rather than anything directly related to my work!
Today was one of those times. There's a chap here who I've already
established is a fellow geek and we tend to get on pretty well. We were
chatting with the people around us and somehow the conversation turned to
poisons and how to build up resistance (um, yes, possibly that is strange).
N muttered a comment about iocane powder, at which point I started giggling
and we had that "hey, another Princess Bride fan!" moment.
We are coming to the conclusion that our book and TV tastes are freakishly
similar and this only further confirmation.
A few minutes later, after we'd been cheerfully geeking out over PB quotes
for a while, the girl sitting opposite me joined in. Another PB fan!
Although E has only read the book and not watched the film, so N and I are
working on her to convince her that the book is equally as good as the film
in different ways and must be watched.
The rest of the lunchbreak was similarly geeky, with the discovery that E is
also a fellow Pratchett fan and has more than a passing familairity with
LotR.
N and I also spent a lot of yesterday lunchbreak arguing medieval history,
which was just as much fun. Well, fun for us. Possibly not fun for the
people around us listening to our "Edward II: Gay or easily infatuated"
debate.
It's kind of nice to find that there are a few fellow geeks to geek out with
here. N's comment when E joined the geekery: "I love this job!" I wouldn't
go that far, but it's certainly easier to get through the day when
lunchbreaks are brightened in this manner :-)
