Still here, but blown around a little
Jan. 19th, 2007 08:28 amUm, I'm a bit restricted in the amount of work I can do right now. Due to the storms yesterday, our head offices lost power. We've got power back, but many of the shared drives and the mainframe are still down. They're being restored gradually, but no word on when my drive gets restored.
Which, er, leaves me with very little to do :-)
Yesterday wasn't a great day. I had a seminar at a local conference centre. On the up side, this meant that I wasn't in the office when the power went down. On the down side, a rather large tree came down in the wind across the entrance to the conference centre taking some power lines with it. A crew managed to get to us eventually (despite local road closures due to other downed trees and lorries that had been blown over) and then took a while to cut the tree away due to the power lines. Some of the lads had gone down to the tree to see whether they could move it and concluded that it was a bloody huge tree that couldn't be dragged away. So rather than leaving the conference at 4.30pm, we finally managed to leave just after 6pm.
Thankfully, most of the motorway I use was open and actually moving (unlike many other motorways), although there were a worrying number of trucks on the road despite police warnings for them to pull off the roads until the winds went down. The country routes that I use to get from the motorway were...exciting in places. There was evidence of a tree having been over the road earlier in the day and lots of branches all over the place. Half my village has no power so I was very relieved to find that my road had lights when I got there. Phew!
So it was very late when I got home and I was feeling distinctly exhausted. And I'm still exhausted. Is it time to go home yet?
