One of the reasons why I love this sport so much is the unexpected stuff. And also the mountains. So having nail-biting, edge of seat stuff on the mountains makes for two rather excellent days of racing :-)

Gerdemann did a fantastic ride on Saturday. He looks like being a fantastic new rider.

And then Rasmussen on Sunday blew me away. Amazing riding and, for the first time in a long while, a King of the Mountains guy also in yellow. If Vino doesn't win, I'd really love it if Rasmussen wins. Of course, he's going to need to grab a lot of time on the mountain stages to have enough of a buffer in his time-trials, but that yellow jersey can inspire people to do some amazing things. It can even inspire climbers to not suck at time-trialling.

Heh.

Vino looked tired on Sunday, but I'm still very impressed with him for continuing despite being pretty banged up. I'm even pretty impressed with Kloeden - as a past holder of a bruised coccyx I can imagine the pain that he's in *winces*

The only bad thing was the crashes on Sunday. I'm impressed that Arroyo managed to finish as far up as he did. As a previous dislocated shoulder victim, I have a lot of sympathy for Michael Rogers and I can't imagine how he continued as long as he did. O'Grady I just really feel for. Every time I read Eurosport he seems to have had more injuries from that crash. At a guess, I'd say that's his season pretty much done for :-(

Despite all that, it's been two fabulous days of racing and I'm looking forward to today's.

My oral exam for the OU this year is supposed to be on a Monday evening, 30 miles away. To do it, I'd need a day off work in order to be in fit state to actually sit the exam and probably a day off afterwards to recover from driving that distance late at night and probably not getting home before 11pm. So I filled in the forms last night to register as disabled for the OU and apply for a telephone alternative.

It's the first time I've actually filled out any form to register as disabled for something so official. I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. One some levels, I still feel like a fraud for calling myself disabled. And I also feel like I'm consigning myself to something that I'm not sure I'm ready for.

I will probably have to get a note from my GP to prove that I have chronic back pain. Not exactly looking forward to that because I haven't really discussed with him how any of this is affecting my life - I mostly just look pathetic and ask for painkilles and referrals :-)

It feels like a fairly major step even though I've not really done anything *sigh*

In other, silly news...

Today we all arrived to find catalogues on our desks for the clearance sale on the company's mail order service. Oddly enough, the paper recycling bins are now filled with catalogues for the clearance sale on the company's mail order service :-) Very useful piece of propaganda, that one.

Combined with last week's genius idea to send us all a CD containing a year's worth of TV adverts, through the post to our homes, I feel that I've suddenly identified some areas where the company could save money and help the environment! That CD very quickly made its way to the bin.

I mean, why would I want to watch a year's worth of very bad TV adverts?

Any good camera deals on that clearance sale? Particularly Digital SLRs?

:-)

30 miles is a long way to go just for an evening. Says the person who has no idea how far that is in real terms :)

I mean, why would I want to watch a year's worth of very bad TV adverts?

I cannot work out why anyone would think anyone would want to.

Further than the distance between my house and your house. Does that help? :-)

It does! I can understand that sort of distance :) It's definitely a long way to go just for an oral. I've been to Wycombe for an evening before, and that's far enough.
