Yesterday, we had a disaster. Not the recoverable kind :-(

Sky decided to send out a software upgrade, that has apparently "caused problems with" (i.e. fried) some people's Sky+ boxes. Sadly, ours was one of the affected. Forty-five minutes on the phone to tech support produced a promise that an engineer would be out on Friday to replace the box free of charge.

Sadly, this means that all the things recorded on it have gone bye-bye. So good-bye to three (or four?) episodes of Heroes that we hadn't had time to watch yet. And good-bye to three episodes of Doctor Who that I hadn't had time to transfer onto DVD for the capping of. Woe.

It's the Heroes that I'm most distressed about. Guess I'll have to download them, but it's taught us a valuable lesson about finding time to watch what we record. We're going to be much more dedicated on this front from now on.

In other news, my back is aching a lot (I'm still paying for a shopping trip on Saturday, bleh) and I have meetings. Is it time to go home yet?

I have succumed to the lure of buying Jaffa Cakes. Bad Sel.

Bwahaha. That way madness lies. Or at least, extended sessions of "Just one more episode then". There are 8 more Heroes to download than have yet been shown on SciFi.

(And I've got to watch Dexter that a friend asked me to download. When I've finished watching Traders season 3...)

um - can I ask what the upgrade did ? I have an HD box but it may be affected ... There is a way to copy all the programs on your sky+ to an image and then back to your new sky plus drive - as long as your happy opening the case. (if you have had the box over a year this shouldnt be an issue - and you can put a bigger disk in at the same time - I used it to put a 500GB disk in)

Of course that fact that episodes 17 and 19 are so good shouldn't influence an chopice made to download anyway ...

Oh dear. To be honest, I'd forgotten that such things exist! Because I've got legitimate reasons for not wanting capped downloads, so I automatically only look at services with allow at least 40 Gig a month (I think I can probably live with an average of 1 Gig per day, at the moment!).

Wanadoo once tried to ensnare me, on a tariff that only allowed 3 Gig per month (and that included email). Since I was about to download a 3 CD set of Mandrake which would blow most of that in a day, I pointed this out to them, and they went away.

Naughty, naughty, Sel!

What flavour? I'm quite partial to the lime myself. ;)

I am keeping all the episodes on my PVR and am trying to work out how to get them into something playable, like avi, for someone else, so I can put them on a DVD if you want. Assuming I work out what I'm doing. And resist the lure of extensions for my PVR (there's quite a few that skip adverts much better!)
