A couple of thoughts
Nov. 23rd, 2006 10:50 amToday is a very, very important day.
Happy 43rd birthday to Doctor Who!!
May we see many more such days :-) This makes me particularly happy because we actually have new DW episodes being made - for so long DW anniversaries had no new stuff to talk about and were about remembering days gone by. Now we've got an active show that's thoroughly enjoyable and doesn't forget that there were 29 years of episodes before its return with plenty of hope for many years more. Heck, I'm expecting it to still be running on Doctor Who's 50th and I hope the celebrations of that are truly massive *gg*
PS. Thank you for the kind wishes. The first page of my f-list this morning was half filled with birthday stuff and more than a few were for me, which was realy lovely. I've always been really pleased that DW and I share a birthday :-)

Thirded!
Date: 2006-11-23 02:06 pm (UTC)I don't share a birth*day* with the Doctor, but I do share a birth*year* so, in theory, I could have watched the first episode (but was perhaps a trifle young to appreciate it!)

Date: 2006-11-23 04:01 pm (UTC)You were possibly a trifle young too appreciate the beauty of the first ep of DW ;-) I was born on its fifteenth birthday :-) Which meant that I was exactly half the age of DW...er...quite a while ago! And it was my fifth birthday party that I snuck out of to watch the Five Doctors. Obviously I was destined for the fannish world...

Date: 2006-11-28 07:59 pm (UTC)The traditional stories are some of the best to see - they fit better with the music, if that makes any sense. Try to see the Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet and Swan Lake before you give up on it totally - preferably performed by Russian companies, the Birmingham Royal (formerly Sadlers Wells) or the English National. You definitely need to see Russian dancers before you declare yourself not a ballet person - they're absolutely fantastic although the English companies mentioned are pretty damn good, too. The traditional stories have so much passion and power when performed by a good company that it's impossible to keep your eyes away from the dancers.
