A Tuesday of fog, mental and otherwise

Um, ow? Apparently my back doesn't appreciate foggy mornings. Or hot humid days, such as yesterday. So it's an ow day. And I'm very tired because it was far too hot last night so I didn't sleep.

What happened to my gorgeous cool, rainy autumn weather, people? Why has September suddenly turned into a re-run of July? I demand a refund on my month! I put up with July and autumn is my reward. Except autumn has disappeared :-(

Still, at least I'll be in Canada in four weeks :-)

Today I shall mostly be finishing off my usual reports while trying not to fall asleep or whine at anyone. I feel that chocolate may be required to get through the day. Really good, dark chocolate. And hey, I have a bar of that in my desk drawer :-)

Just had a look at LJ's new tracking options. They're either going to be very useful (when I want to keep up with the comments on an interesting debate in someone else's journal and know that I'll forget to re-check the post) or scary (when someone starts with the stalking). I am divided. And brain foggy.

The tracking for comments to a particular entry looks really interesting - except you have to have a paid account to use it. If they'd just have RSS feeds of comments, as WP does, that would do me!

I definitely live in a cold house because people keep talking about it being too hot to sleep - I'm finding it too cold to keep the window open.

Hang on, on what way is it stalkery? I've just read metafandom (although haven't had time to read the posts on it yet) and it looks like lots of people are complaining about it. Which suggests I've missed something and I don't know what.

The old 'can feel it in the bones' thing. Some of my joints aren't happy at the moment and I woke up this morning to find first finger on my right hand very achy, red and swollen up overnight, it's still not that good by hey ho can't do much about it.

Huh, I hadn't noticed that the comment tracking was paid only. They really are trying to get everyone tempted into paid accounts! RSS feeds of comments would be handy, though.

I am totally jealous of your cold house. Mind, we do have different ideas on what is a comfortable temperature for sleeping...

And I am making no comments on your Firefox Portable posession. I am not jealous in the slightest. Grrr.

At the moment it isn't too stalkery. The only bit that might be interpreted as stalkery is being able to track someone's journal, but that's something the friends page already does. Except the tracking is a bit more blatant.

However, a very strange person could track a person's the journal and then track everything they spot that person doing around LJ. So far, LJ haven't released the ability to just track everything that one person does everywhere on LJ, but the idea of that being available could be waht has people on metafandom kicking up a fuss.

To be honest, LJ seems to be doing everything they can to ensure that this stuff can't be used for stalking - I suspect that it's one of those little 'moments' that LJ-users have when they overreact to a new feature. Such as the insanity that happened when Voxx was created or LJ announced they were redesigning the navigation system.

It totally sucks when the weather starts dictating how you'll feel! Thing is, I genuinely love autumn and winter so I'm willing to put up with the extra pain for the joy of the seasons. It's this summer re-run with added humidity that's really killing me :-)

That's the one thing I'd actually use if I had a paid account. But I refuse to get one on principle - and because the number of times I'd actually use it wouldn't justify the expense.

Well, yes. You'd probably think it's the right temperature in the winter when getting into bed feels like lying on a block of ice and you can't go round in anything less than 3 jumpers.

My mp3 player is also a pen drive, as you plug it into the USB port to put mp3s on it. No idea if ipods are the same though.

Ah, I see. The only thing I can track is all comments to a particular journal - half of which won't make sense because I check my email before my RSS Feeds, so if they're replies to a new post I'll have no idea what's going on. Which makes it all seem a bit pointless really.

I think I missed the Vox insanity. Vox I generally don't understand because it looks like just another blog to me. The only thing that LJ has going for it are the communities (even WP has a friends page equivalent plug-in) and the market seems already a bit crowded for a new bloging site to work.

Ah, yes, you would be getting things in an odd order. I'll be seeing how much I actually use it before I comment on it much. The only thing that I'd be irritated about is if they turned off the notification of replies to my posts and comments - I wouldn't want to have to set up a tracker every time I posted or commented and often the only way I remember to go back and reply to comments is from the emails I'll just have to see how it ends up working :-)

The Vox thing was daft so you should feel very glad you missed it. Everyone turned into Chicken Licken for a week. Very silly.

Well, not quite that bad :-) Although I'd prefer it if the room was cold enough to require pyjamas and a really heavy duvet. OK, maybe I am that bad after all...

During the day I'm a one jumper only kind of gal. Colder than that and I get grouchy. And start finding blankets.

No idea if ipods are the same though.

I'll find out when it arrives. It was dispatched today!! I believe that there is USB involved, though, so that's cool :-)

Wonder if I can plug it into the machine at work? Probably not, considering how much stuff they've disabled...

You don't know till you try! In theory the whole point of Firefox Portable is that you can use it on a computer you don't have admin rights to. Although that might well assume it hasn't had some insane IT people near it :0
