How did I fail to notice that David Hewlett is currently a confirmed guest for Peg Two? I mean, it's *David Hewlett*. Is it silly to be looking forward to Peg Two already?

This was noticed while getting an early jump on the holiday charts and actually booking my holiday for said Peg Two convention :-)

I heard about that recently but then had a big old wibble at the very un-student-friendly prices. Surely there must be some stuff I can flog on ebay or live without for a while so I can crib the cash together!

Ooh, I had no idea there was an LJ community for the con. Have just joined it and will post when I've had a moment to browse through it.

And yes, when I saw all the woe-ing about the cancelation of SG-1 my immediate thought was "But what about SGA?" Thank goodness it's been renewed! I've been enjoying SGA much more over the last couple of years than SG-1. I was expecting to be highly distressed about the cancellation, but I'm more thinking "Huh, finally" now. Which is weird, but possibly relates to the fact that I've not been watching since half way through season 9 due to a losing interest problem.

But the con looks totally cool :-)

I think that it's because I've not really been around LJ as much lately and I'm not actually active only any SGA mailing lists. So I didn't hear. But I've now added the Peg 2 LJ so I should at least be able to spot these little things next time :-)

You must come if you can - Peg One was fabulous and Peg Two should be just as fun :-)

If it helps your budget at all, staying at the Sheraton over the road is definitely recommended - much cheaper and the rooms are much nicer. It's best if you book in advance and make sure that you book the right Sheraton - there are two in the vicinity of Heathrow and you really want to make sure that it's the one near the Thistle. If you need a link to their website, reply to this post with your email and I'll pass on the details.

I think I've found the right Sheraton, across from the Thistle. :) I'll keep one eye on the LJ comm and the other on my finances, and hopefully I can go. I've never actually been to a con before, and it would be daft to miss this one as a) I wouldn't have to travel far, and b) HEWLETT! :D

*whimpers* I'm gonna be over there in November. Is it totally unreasonable for me to want to come over for this, too? And then I need time off the end of March, and I'll definitely be back over later next year. . . Damned work! I hate it when it interfers with The Important Stuff in Life! Of course, it *pays* for the Important Stuff, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Back on August 5 I discovered that DH was going to be at Pegasus 2 and I booked a ticket. I'm glad you'll be there, too. I was beginning to think I'd be all alone.

I'm also happy that SGA wasn't cancelled--yet. I doubt it will survive much longer, since it seems the Sci Fi channel would rather buy in-house productions and wrestling.

I'll just have to enjoy the show while I can--including my trip to the set next week. Squee!

I tend to give colleagues very advanced warning of me going to a con, like as soon as I've booked my ticket. Leave for Pegasus 2 was booked, along with SG-11 and Gatecon UK, as soon as I got my current leave card. It's called getting in there quick before anybody else decides that's a good time for leave.

I am not in the slightest bit jealous of you getting a set visit :-))

I'm kind of hoping that SGA makes it to 5 seasons, even if Sci-Fi can't be bothered to spend the money on half decent stuff. There seems to be an overall trend on all networks, over here as well as on your side, to ditch costly, original programming and rely on reality TV. Every time I see that a channel is showing more of that crap - and for me, wrestling falls under that category - it makes me angry because it's taking away the options for viewers who want interesting shows. That it's happening on a sci-fi channel makes it even sillier :-(

Cons are so much fun :-) Peg One was fantastic, which was why I signed up for Peg 2 during the con without having any guests even hinted at! If you can make your budget stretch to it, it's definitely worth trying for. When I was a student, I used to put £10 into an envelope every week with the aim of saving up to pay for the con - it at least meant that I could mostly afford the ticket and hotel costs, even if everything else was on a tight budget. And we can all supply you with money-saving tips while you're at the con, if that helps.

Lemme know if you can go and I'll make sure that you get introduced around - cons are much more fun when done with a few friends :-)

It's definitely not unreasonable for you to want to come over for this :-) It's going to be a total blast. The fact that I won't be at the November events and therefore won't see you otherwise has nothing to do with that encouragement...

Work does tend to interfere with the Important Stuff. Why do none of the management types understand about Important Stuff? *g*

I'm usually rotten at remembering to book leave for things, but for Peg One there was a dodgy moment when the boss booked me on a training course a couple of days after I'd booked my leave (admittedly I'd only booked the leave four weeks before the con...), so this time I want to make sure that my leave has been in the book for ages and if the boss attempts to book a training course, I can point at the book and laugh at him.

I've also remembered to put my leave into my diary, just in case I accidentally agree to another training course without remembering about the whole 'leave for a con' concept.

YOu are so right about the reality show crap. And not only does it mean the networks have less time to put on original programming, it means that they don't want to pay any money for it either.

A while ago, the critics said that the backlash was starting and that people weren't watching the reality shows as much. But, even so, they cost so little to make that the networks can lose 2/3 of their audience and still make more money on the crap reality shows. After all, this is why Sci-Fi Channel here has now become the Sci-Fi and WRESTLING channel--showing wrestling two nights a week because the wrestling performer probably costs them all of $1.98.

Grrrr. Yes, I need to get off my soapbox as well. But since the networks won't listen to us, we just vent at our friends. (g)

Oh, wonderful! It sounds like much of the crew are going to be there as well. I signed up for the Peg 2 lj and it seems like they're trying to do a couple of get-togethers. Since I come from WAY out of town, I like to have some things to do during the downtimes. I don't think Kelly (theOneRing) is interested in coming this time, so I'll be alone.

I recently read that Sci-Fi picked up Season 2 of DW, and I believe it will start airing here in October. I picked up a couple of the episodes on VCD at a convention and they were great! The Christmas episode and School Reunion. I haven't been reading your reviews because elsewhere I heard of a couple of the HUGE spoilers and I'm trying not to hear too many more. Really looking forward to seeing more of the Doctor.

Grrr indeed :-( It's definitely the cheapness that appeals with these shows - I've seen that the ratings for a lot of them are dive-bombing but they still get re-comissioned because the profits still look good to the networks.

Although happily Doctor Who managed to kill Celebrity Wrestling and Celebrity Love Island :-)) Except the latter came back this season after DW ended, which is annoying. And the ratings were apparently better. Possibly because it wasn't opposite genuinely good TV :-))

Yup, looks like we'll have a good showing of people we know so it's going to be cool :-) I'll have a look into those get-togethers, too. I bought my ticket early enough to probably be in the meet and greet on the Friday night, but it would be interesting to see what else is going on during the evenings.

I will probably be having to register disabled, though, and cart my walking stick around :-( Still, I'm going to have a good time whatever happens :-) And if I'm not having to do too much standing and crouching then I'll enjoy it even more!

Avoid my DW reviews until you've seen the season - it's really very good and you'll want to avoid as many spoilers as possible. Shame you've already seen a couple of them, but I hope you managed to avoid any more. The Christmas episode and School Reunion were both fantastic and the rest of the season matches up in quality.
