Happenings and thinkings
Jun. 18th, 2006 09:28 pmToday has been rather busy and surprisingly productive.
We went out for lunch to celebrate my father's birthday at the (very good) local Italian place and I'm still feeling pizza-filled. We watched a film, chatted a little and my sister made a flying visit.
Somehow, I have also managed to get through three chapters of French and, while I'm still behind with an assignment deadline looming, I'm a little less behind than I was.
I prepped a photo for the Quaker website I'm admining for and am now waiting on client approval before putting it up.
And I absolutely did not write more of the Atlantis AU that I'm totally not going to write.
It was unusual, beautiful and I adored it. I'm behind on my DW reviews, and I really don't have time to do the indepth analysis that I want to on this one, but I had to remark on just how much I enjoyed Love and Monsters. We only saw the Doctor and Rose for a few minutes, the alien wasn't the heart of the story and we saw everything from the POV of a shy, sweet geek called Elton.
I adore Elton. And Ursula.
It was nothing like the usual DW ep and I wasn't really sure what to make of it for the first couple of moments. But I adored it. The humour really worked in the episodes, even the slight farce feeling in a couple of scenes, but there was also an element of heartbreak to it. It's one I really need to re-watch for the detail and Elton was just so lovely. Although it was billed as the Peter Kay episode, it was Marc Warren who stole the episode and made it really work. Awww.
And now I'm going for an early night so that I can be up stupidly early for my insanely early Monday morning start where some IT system will break down and put me further behind than I would have been if I'd started at my normal time. Go me.
Please, please, please let me find a new job so that I can get the hell out of there!

Date: 2006-06-19 07:45 pm (UTC)If I had read the write-ups on what this episode would be, it's probably the kind of thing that I would have been really uncertain about going in. I'm glad that I saw it without spoilers because I was able to appreciate what a lovely story it was :-)
