Book stuff

Every now and again, I get news that makes me bouncy and happy even though it's nothing that affects me directly. Today's news was that [livejournal.com profile] astolat has got a three book deal *g* She's sold books *g* She's a great fanfic writer and it's incredibly encouraging to see the good 'uns make the cross-over into published profic.

I know that a lot of fanfic writers don't want to write original stuff and couldn't care less about publishing - that's fine. Fanfic should be fun and nobody should be made to feel bad because they're happy doing it. For those of us who aspire to join the ranks of published authors, though, it's wonderful news every time someone manages the cross-over. I hope astolat doesn't give up writing fanfic completely, but I'm probably going to be one of the people squeeing when her book appears on Amazon and I have to buy it *g*

In news on my own fic, I'm midway through the final Thing and am therefore definitely on track to get it out to a beta at the weekend. And I'm starting to write some of the background essays for Mage Murders that I always end up writing to flesh out my ideas on the world it's set in. Er, I've also got the final chapter sitting in my head and will probably end up setting down a rough version in the near future. At least I know exactly where I'm heading *g*

And research projects still suck mightily.
