SGA: Inferno and other random stuff
Mar. 11th, 2006 03:03 pmOMG, super volcano!
Yup, I'm a total disaster movie fan so I was already pretty stoked about the idea of SGA doing a volcano disaster episode. But to have them do a supervolcano? There just aren't enough disaster movies about super volcanos. Although you'll never get me in Yellowstone Park. I'm not completely stupid ;-)
It was a pretty good episode that I thoroughly enjoyed. Possibly I was overly influenced by the 'OMG volcano'-ness of it, but I thought it was a fun, enjoyable episode with just the right level of 'eek'-ness at the end to ensure that they'll have a return viewer next week. Really the only element they missed was the rescue of a cut animal (ala Towering Inferno or Earthquake) to hit true disaster movie quotients, but Ronon rescuing cute moppets can probably count.
The only thing marring it was Sky's stupid cock-up so that they talked over the last couple of minutes and showed the preview for the next show, ensuring that I'm not entirely sure what happened during the exciting climax. Bleh. Guess that's what buying DVDs was invented for.
But it was still SGA doing super volcano. Yay!
In slightly duller news, I returned to the doctor this week and got some stonger painkillers. They aren't kicking in yet, but at least it's a start. I can always go back and get something else if they don't work - the doc seemed to feel that pain relief was justified. I was looking rather tired and bedraggled at the time after battling the traffic queues from hell after a crash on one of the motorways that I used. So for once the traffic worked in my favour :-)

I love the fact that I can read it any way I want - if I chose, I could see it as Sheppard and McKay trying to outdo each other and get the girl, but the slasher in me (and, um, the person actually watching the show...) can quite happily interpret it as "I am repressed yet I will make the sure the girl doesn't get my guy". But then I'm biased :-)
And SGA needs to do more disaster movie cliches. 'Cos my favourite show plus my favourite movie genre combined is just so squee-worthy :-)
The bedraggled thing was definitely of the good that day. The doc had obviously seen in my notes that treatment has been dragging a bit, but he did listen and he did take me seriously. He muttered things about inflamed bones in my spine, but I don't really care - I'll get a new diagnosis from the next person I see anyway. What really matters is that he whipped out his prescription pad. And promised that there were stronger things out there if this stuff doens't work.

Date: 2006-03-11 09:25 pm (UTC)And I've been in Yellowstone Park on a sampling trip-don't worry, it's safe. *g* Except for the bears. And you have to be careful around the hot springs. But it's utterly gorgeous, even on the microscopic level.

You're a braver woman than I. There was a docu-drama thing on the BBC last year about the eruption of Yellowstone Park - a "what would happen if..." that I adored to pieces (big volcanic eruption! Extinction level event!), but rather worried me about Yellowstone. It looks gorgeous, but I can't help remembering what's causing those hot springs...
