Can you reword those first two paragraphs in English for, well, me?

Er, oops. After Strikethrough and Boldthrough, a group of fans started considering how to set up a fanfic archive that wouldn't have the legal problems of LJ or the restrictions of FF.net. The project is called An Archive of Our Own.

Out of that discussion, it was decided to set up a non-profit organisation to ensure that everything was legal and the project didn't rely on one person doing everything. Along the way, it was decided to look at some other projects such as setting up a legal defence fund for fans needing to defend against copyright suites and trying to create a journal to document fan history. The Organisation for Transformative works is the non-profit organisation that will be working on all of these projects and they've been making announcements about the organisational structure and time-lines this week. The interesting thing is find out how many fans are, in fact, have rather impressive credentials as well as being well known fan-writers.

It's a project that I'm very interested in watching and has the potential to usher in some fairly major changes to fandom. Whether all those changes will be for the good of fandom will be interesting.

your best bet is probably to speak to the people doing it, they'll know best what the effects of doing it are.

I talked to the guys running the session and they sorted me out with a light, low-recoil gun that didn't hurt me. Yay! It was good fun :-)
