Dear yuletide
Dear Yuletide Author,
First of all, thank you so much for doing this! I'm sure that I'm going to love whatever you write. There's a lot of family stuff for me to do on Christmas Day (the price I pay for having my family scattered around the world - lots of Skyping) so if I don't comment on my story on the day, don't worry. I'm overwhelmed with Christmas and will be reading it on Boxing Day :-)
This year I surprised myself both in terms of the fandoms that I chose and the lack of femslash in my wishes. Usually there is at least one fandom where I would love some femslash. I briefly considered requesting Lady Sybil/Gwen in my Downton request, but 1) Gwen wasn't on the nomination list (oops!) and 2) I discovered that I really wanted to know more about Lady Edith.
My favourite fics involve a bit of good plot and some nice character insights or development. If you get that in the story then you're going to score big with me :-)
You want something more specific? OK, let me think...
Ballet Shoes, Petrova Fossil
I haven't read the two novels that have Fossil cameos and I rather get the feeling that they feature Posy and/or Pauline more than Petrova. I know that she does amazing things with aeroplanes and engineering, but I'd like a story just for Petrova. Something wth a bit of plot and some insights into who she grows into. She's my favourite Fossil and the ones that I can most identify with.
Oxford Time Travellers, Colin Templar and/or John Dunworthy
I've devoured the Oxford Time Travellers books this year and loved them all. In a lot of ways, I really don't mind what you write! Colin Templar is a great character so a story featuring him would be lovely, particularly if it fills in the gaps during Blackout/All Clear. Alternatively something set in the lab would be wonderful. We only see the lab techs when people are going to or returning from drops and it would be wonderful to have a peek at what they're doing while our heroic travellers are having their adventures. Really, if there is a bit of a plot and some nice character moments then I'll be happy with whatever aspect you write about.
Downton Abbey, Edit Crawley
This is the one that surprised me because, during the first season, I would never have wanted to see more of Edith. She was waspish, annoying and horribly jealous of her sisters. I disliked her intensely. What surprised me is how much she grew through season two. She seems like a character who needs a purpose and something to do or she stagnates and turns bitter. I would love to see something about that, where she finds a purpose and a future for herself. The way that the world will be changing over the next few years in Downton time seem like the perfect opportunity for Edith to finally find her place in the world.
You can take these ideas or discard them entirely, it's your choice. The only things I'm really not into are PWP, death fic and non-con. Thank you so much, Yuletide Author, I think you're smashing :-)
